13th Annual Conference and Gala Dinner

European Monetary Policy and World Capital Markets

Hamburg, Wednesday 5th November 2008

You are cordially invited to take part in a unique gathering devoted to examining interlinking developments in European monetary and economic policies in the light of strategic and political challenges stemming from the integration of world capital markets. The conference will look at the relationship between foreign and security policies on the one hand, and economic and monetary policies on the other, which has been a crucial issue for decades of European policy-makers.

Former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt (left) and former French President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing (right) will be among a range of prominent speakers including Jürgen Fitschen, Member of the Group Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank; Prof. Danuta Hübner, Commissioner for Regional Policy at the European Commission; Dr. Denis MacShane, former UK Minister for Europe; Philippe Lagayette, former Deputy Governor of Banque de France and current Vice Chairman of JPMorgan in EMEA and Chairman of JPMorgan's Sovereigns group in EMEA; Sir Stephen Wall, former UK Permanent Representative to the European Union; Dr. Gerard Lyons, Chief Economist of Standard Chartered Bank; Christof Rühl, Group Chief Economist and Vice President of BP; Kurt Viermetz, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Börse; and former German Finance Minister Dr. Theo Waigel (please note that Helmut Schmidt and Valéry Giscard d'Estaing will attend the Gala Dinner).

The 13th annual conference of the German-British Forum is held in association with the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany (BCCG) and Ernst & Young, and is supported by, among others, the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius. Sponsors include Berenberg Bank, British Airways, Deutsche Bank, Deutsche BP and Murmann Verlag.
