Public-Private Partnerships in Railways and Infrastructure

What can Britain and Germany Learn from Each Other?

The London transport conference of the German-British Forum and German-British Chamber of Commerce offers an opportunity to discuss the outlook for co-operation in the rail transport field in the light of the challenges faced by the railway sectors in Britain and Germany.

Both the German and British governments want to attract private finance into transport generally and into the railways in particular. But, against the background of the highly controversial rail privatisation in the UK in the 1990s, both governments face hurdles in turning theoretical concepts into workable models.

The conference examines the issues from a variety of industrial, financial and customer service viewpoints, drawing on varied British and German experiences. It seeks to assess the best forms of public-private partnerships likely to solve problems in the transport and infrastructure fields in the next 10 years.
