

Simon Tilford joined the CER in February 2006 as head of
the business unit, and in September 2007 he became chief economist. He previously
worked as an economist and analyst for the Economist Intelligence Unit in
London. Prior to this, he was an economist with Nomura International, covering
central and eastern European economies. He writes and comments on all aspects of
European politics and economies, with a particular focus on competitiveness, the
sustainability of the euro, demographics and the environment. Simon has an MA in
International Political Economy from Warwick University and a BA in Politics and
Economics from Bristol University. He speaks German and some French.
